Anybody else interested in a section uniquely devoted to the problems/issues/situations/behaviors in households with multiple dogs, say three-plus? There are a whole host of dynamics that change with the third dog, for instance, suddenly you have more dogs than hands. Discipline and feeding take on new dimensions. Not to mention supplies and costs.
Not to the exclusion of anyone else of course, but I think it would be a nice feature to have a place where such ideas could be easily grouped.
edit: Mary Mac
Ok.. Mary .. I added a poll... (sorry to jump n here like this)
Vote... it will be up for 5 days.
Then we'll add the board.

Sounds good to me. Two's a pair, but three's a pack!

Are you talking about a separate board for this?

You know, I've been thinking about it for a while, and I thought I'd just start a separate behavior thread. But last night when I started thinking about the big picture, I decided that it's really a lot more than that, when you consider the logistics. Often it's as much about how YOU do things, as how the DOGS do things.
So I thought I'd ask what everybody else thought.
Andrea: Yep, my house, twice a day, clockwork!!!

I can certainly see how you guys would have additional and different issues than the rest of us. I really don't know how you do it. Used to think I wanted a "house full," now I know I got in over my head with two.

I would love a topic like this - would kinda prepare me for future additions. Not that we're toying with that thought!

Oy, for me, creativity always comes after the fact. Anybody else? Kat? Mary? 5, 6 dogs? Emily?
"A Kennel Full"
"Whoops!"
"Multiple Dog Households" (please don't!)

"Whoops" is a very fitting title for my situation Emily, that comes from the day that we went from 4 dogs in the morning, to 14 dogs that night.......and they were all adult dogs, no accidental litters! But since it's not accidental for everyone, I don't think that's the best for here.

How about "What's One More?" Seeing as how that's what everyone seems to think when they add one more.

I'm probably biased, having grown up on a metro-area kennel property (yes, it's just about as "fun" as it sounds, LOL!), but I like "A Kennel Full."

So should we have a vote??? I can't wait for this board - I have so many questions, it's not even funny. In the meantime, which transition is the biggest?
Going from 1 to 2 dogs? From 2 to 3? 3 to 4? I assume that once you have three or four, one more doesn't really 'count', right?

I think we should put up a poll for the board name.
Kat - I think, personally, the biggest transition is from 1 to 2. The jealousy, the "what who's s/he?", etc. When you get more beyond that, they know the routine.

I was wondering ... D&J have found such a nice balance and two is a pair. I'm concerned about 'throwing' a third one into the mix and then you'd have 'parties' - two against one. And what to get, male or female .... hach, I don't even want another dog, I think. So far, I've got a hand for each dog, they can snuggle up left and right. We'll buy a house next year so there would be a large yard but still ...

I don't remember ever having one dog, since most of mine have come in pairs. Right now, 2 beagles are sharing one big bed beside the computer, a brit's on the sofa, a brit's by the fireplace, and a munster's in a crate. Nope, don't remember just one, and I haven't had less than 4 since 1993!
I really notice a difference when it comes to the third dog. The logistics change on EVERYTHING, and the very first is three leashes, and only two hands.
I'm starting to get attached to "Three+somes" myself.
