My Ontario Includes Pit Bulls!

WWW
« on: September 03, 2005, 02:54:49 PM »

I don't officially have to muzzle Siris till Oct 29, but I bought one to get her used to it. Let's face it, they all look horrific, but I found a style that has a nose hole and allows for the tongue to stick out and the dog to pant and it looks nicer than the basket muzzles-  It's made of leather and is quite sturdy and well made.  The pit bull ban fighters in Ontario are all suggesting this style, and doing a huge campaign to educate pit bull owners not to buy the nylon, mesh or other cheap types, because they're not really made for prolonged use, and make it difficult for the dog to do anything active at all, and in fact restrict panting.. I'm not a girly girl in the least, but I went for baby pink, because it's probably the most soothing and least scary looking colour.  I've only had it on Siris for a few minutes and she absolutely despises it but I've got 2 months to desensitize her to it.

Check out the pictures:

I feel so sorry for her.  If only there weren't all those nimcompoops who bred and trained and sold pitties for fighting, things would be a lot different.

That picture makes me tear up. Poor Siris- you didn't do anything wrong, sweetheart.

I do love that they come in 'friendly' colors like pink, and flowers. That helps at least.  huugg

This infuriates me.  I am soooooooooooooooooo sorry there are such idiots in the world that would pass a law like this.  Hundreds of thousands of dogs have done nothing wrong yet they are made to wear this hidious device.

I apologize for all the idiots in the world siris.

That's depressing and I'm sorry to say this (please don't get mad), it's not at all attractive.   She's such a beautiful  dog and all that is ruined because you have to muzzle her because of some STUUUUUUUUUUUUPID law!   Uggggh, I wish they would use their heads.

I know what you're saying Andrew. It's ok for a muzzle but the whole idea of muzzling her is just ... I don't even have a word for it. It's just so very wrong.

Y'all could move, there are still provinces that love pitbulls right?  I hate seeing her going through this.

I temporarily thought about moving, Andrew, and I likely would have had the situation been all out genocide like in Denver where they don't even have a grandfather policy... but my family is here, all my friends are here, my job is here, and I honestly love Toronto.  If I had someone who was going to also be uprooting their life and going with me, I'd really consider it, but I don't want to displace everything and have Siris and I end up totally alone in another province.

If I were moving provinces too, since I'm a big city girl, I'd likely be considering Montreal and Vancouver - with Montreal there's the whole French thing (though I do speak it, I don't speak it really well) and Vancouver from what I understand has BSL enforced at the municipal level.

Thanks for all your comments.  I'm thinking about designing a vest or at the very least a bandanna with some anti-BSL messaging on it, so that people can have their muzzled dogs wear them to educate the public.  If mine turns out okay, I may try to open a cafe press store, or sell them thru my obedience school with the profits being donated to the legal challenge.

This breaks my heart. Don't punish good dogs because of human stupidity. Punish the owners of the dogs that are the problem. I am so sorry that you have to go through something like this.
