My two outlaws

« on: September 01, 2011, 06:25:33 PM »

I know I don't post often, but I do check in and try to keep up with everyone.  I haven't really mentioned Brutus's decline because I just didn't want to believe it myself.  He has steadily getting worse, and today, he and I decided it was time.

He stopped eating all together Tuesday, and has been nauseous all the time since then.  He has been drinking excessively, and becoming senile.  He was losing control of his back legs and just wasn't happy.  I wanted to let him go before he started suffering.

He was a good boy, had a huge heart of gold and a goofy personality.  He will certainly be missed.

Godspeed, Brutus.

I was wondering about you. I really appreciate senior dogs and saddened by His passing.
Sometimes the bridge is the best choice.  Dwarf and I have sent our share on ahead to
wait for us.   Seems the place SHOULD be crowded. But I hear it ain't..  Got PLENTY room
for family reunions.  Try not to miss him TOO bad...  Doc and Dwarf.. group hug

I'm so sorry Emily.  You were so lucky to have each other.  xoxo

Oh Emily I am so sorry.  It never seems fair to us to say bye to our loved companions, but it is the great act of love that gives them relief.  Brutus will add a lot of fun personality to the bridge.

You know, I actually cried when I saw your post. Brutus was who I thought about when I took on my first Dane foster "Sampson" who bit a little guy in the face over a dog dish and I thought what a pointless waste of life to destroy this creature for lack of being able to pick up a danged dog bowl twice a day... So I took him and he went to a childless couple who feed him on a paper plate and he does not guard those... And they love him and adore him.

Without Brutus, And Ollie I would have never known about how a Dane was, I would have NEVER considered Sampson, and he was obviously just the start of finding my true calling in the rescue world.

He joins a host of other wonderful friends and family at the bridge, I know you will see him again. And I hope I ever get the chance to meet him!

Unable are the loved to die.  For love is immortality.  ~Emily Dickinson
