I'm excited, but not excited... My newest foster "Giovanna" is heavily pregnant... Owner surrender, 2 year old great dane who had NINETEEN puppies in her last litter...  eeek According to the owner she is about 9 weeks pregnant... so obviously not the brightest bulb in the box...  thud What ever!

She is safe now and that is what matters! And she is a DREAM of a dog!! So quiet and gentle, liked the cats, doesn't mind the other dogs... such a sweet heart!!

Zomg, if the owner is about right about the timeline, the puppies should be ready to pop out anytime  eeek That poor girl, having a second litter so young !  hand I hope for your sake and hers that this one will be smaller in numbers. Nineteen pups seems like a huge number, even for a Dane. You sure the owner could count all the way to nineteen the first time ?!

Giovanna looks very sweet. I am happy she is with you and is meshing into your household easily. Good luck to both of you. Of course, pictures will be expected when the little ones arrive.

I didn't think 19 puppies was possible even for a giant breed.  eeek  jawdrop

For both your sakes, I hope this next litter is 1/4th the size. She looks beautiful and they didn't crop her ears.  clapping Why did the owner surrender her? Or do I want to know?

You haven't posted in a while so I have been wondering how your other fosters are doing.

Isn't a dog gestation only 8 weeks?  Good grief.  She looks like she wasn't getting enough to eat.  Her legs are so skinny.  She looks calm and content, in the picture, though.  I wonder why they gave her up, too.  There are ways to prevent pregnancy, if that's the issue.

She was " bread on porpoise to my finances American Stiffordshore Terrior" <--- A direct quote cut from the e-mail and "paisted" for yalls enjoyment...  thud

And this woman is 6 months pregnant so the cycle of stupid continues...

And Dawn is correct... Dog gestation is 63 days... so if she was nine weeks pregnant we are all in trouble because I still have no puppies... On top of that this is her THIRD litter... Things don't get much more screwed up than this...

Whaaat ? Third litter by 2 years old !!! That means they "bread" her on each heat cycle  bang your head  Since you don't know exactly how far along she is, will you do an ultrasound or something to see what's going on ?

We are just taking this as it comes... she has successfully produced two litters in the past and she is not laboring which means she is not ready which means this woman didn't get her math right...
More intervention usually means more fetal death and at this point since they already exist I want to keep them safe!! She is getting milk today more and more and tonight she is a bit restless. But we don't know if that is labor or if she is TERRIFIED because her only family she has ever known dropped her off at a new scary house and she is grossly pregnant and scared.

I feel so bad for her. We are trying to keep the house calm and it helps that Rufus is on a trial adoption! He's my highest energy dog!!

She is VERY thin but still weighs in at 116 pounds! She is eating like a horse four times a day but only with a little  *gag* alpo canned mixed in... She turns her nose up at EVERYTHING else... And at this point if she wanted to eat my coworker I would help her!

She was HW neg today but INFESTED with MASS hook worms!! So we treated those and got her a Rabies shot, which I hated to do, but Ive been NAILED by a laboring or new mother who didn't know me and I'd rather err on the side of caution. Being a killed virus it poses no risk to the pups... OF COURSE she doesn't have a current distemper/parvo... Of course...

So we wait and wait and wait until she goes into labor and makes me a Grammy!  shamrock I'm kinda hoping for Friday... thats MY birthday! The first would be kinda cute as well!

Is there a chance the hookworms can be transferred to the puppies?

I guess that would your dream of a birthday!

The puppies are already infected... They will be given strongid at  2-4-6-8 weeks!

It really would be a great present for me!!! I just hope there isn't NINETEEN again... I don't know how we will handle that one... I mean, we will handle it, I just don't know how...

Let's hope for Friday then.  jumping bunny Alpo ain't great but she's eating which is always good. It's kind of scary she is so close to whelping and so malnourished.

It doesn't hurt that she is eating Alpo mixed with wellness core...  rotfl I am just hoping I can get her built up enough that she produces plenty of milk and feeds all her babies herself!!!

I think the best place she can be right now is with you, Hill.

Will you keep them all as fosters until they are ready to leave, or will she and the pups go somewhere else?

I am finally getting to read this.  OMG she is pregnant.  I feel for the poor girl.  I sure hope this litter is successful and her last litter she ever has to deal with.  I shared this thread with DH and he got highly upset.  Sure hope Giovanna is doing better and her ordeal is over with soon so she can live a happy life.  Sure glad she is in your hands Hill. angel

Tonight she is whiney and clingy and refuses to leave my closet... I am sooooo hoping tonight is the night!!! But  huh? she likes to keep me guessing!

Again no puppies!!! thud  thud  thud She did however keep me awake all night whining and pacing and acting laborish.

But yes this is normal! She is in no distress, puppies are squiggling around in there, she's eating, drinking, putting weight on, no fever, she is going to work with me today for another recheck, but Doc had said based of the palpation she could have another WEEK to go...  thud I'll DIE!!
