This week we're working on "Pray". A favorite of the Hoodlums and it never fails to be a crowd pleaser.

The position: Dog sitting, puts feet up on hand/arm when promted, and puts head between legs.

I'd work with this one in two steps.

First part: Feet up. Encourage your dog to place his feet on your forearm (for larger dogs) or outstreched hand (for little dogs). You can either scoop both feet up and praise or use a treat/toy to lure him to put his feet up. If you are uncomfortable having the dog up on your arm, you could always teach him to put his feet up on a chair or stool. Once you are reliable at this, you can move to the next step.

Praying: This is the most difficult part because it's not a natural position for your dog. Place a treat under the dog's head so they have to reach down (into the position) to get the treat while saying your command word (pray I don't beat you  wink2 , say your prayers, pray, etc). You need to try to keep the dog from putting their feet down, this is easier said than done. If that happens do not give the dog the treat and try it again.

Lets see some Praying Dogs!!!  }jumphappy{

P.s.
If anybody has preferences for future tricks, I'd be happy to hear 'em...or else you'll just get stuck with whatever I pick.  Evil

Mollys known this trick for awhile and its really not hard to teach.  Molly learns all her tricks with food...of course.

I have her put her paws up on my arm and hold the treat under my arm and she reaches down to get it and

wa laaaa she's praying!

I taught my friend's dog Chipper to pray today!! Grin

I did it exactly the way I said in the first post, first I taught him "feet up" and we did that over and over and over until he finally started doing it himself. Which really took a lot less time than I expected! Then we taught him to put his paws between his legs.

Terri, AJ, what part exactly is giving you problems?

I would love to work on some of these with Chester, but he's so not food motivated.  Treats mean NOTHING to him.   thud

I can do some basic commands with him, but without food as a motivator his attention span is about 2 seconds so I have to work fast!   ~:~:~

Cana gets too excited.....I have to remember to do it after exercise!   I was working on feet up...now that my arm is all busted up, I haven't been working on it.  Sad
